4 Stylish Ways To Incorporate Dulux’s Tranquil Dawn Into Your Bedroom

Sandra Humble, Managing Director of Linthorpe Beds, is a self-confessed style guru when it comes to interior décor. With a bold and fearless approach and a particularly keen eye for detail, she’s always keeping up with new decorating trends. Here, she gives her top four ways to incorporate Dulux’s Colour of the Year 2020, Tranquil Dawn, into your bedroom.

Each year, a team of expert judges gather to choose the ultimate colour of the year from the Dulux collection. This year, they chose the subtle hue of Tranquil Dawn as Colour of the Year 2020. A sage green with mushroom undertones, and it’s the perfect colour to use if you’re looking to refresh your interiors for the new year.

Because this colour is so delicate, it’s ideal for bedrooms. Below, I’ll be giving you my four top style tips to help you incorporate Tranquil Dawn into your bedroom and create the ultimate sleep sanctuary.

Inject a bit of tranquillity

Your bedroom is where you rest, so why wouldn’t you want it to be a calm and relaxing space? The clue is in the name, as the pale green and natural mushroom undertones of ‘Tranquil Dawn’ make it the perfect paint colour for creating a serene style, as it’s not overpowering or over-stimulating. Just pair it with other pale, earthy tones, like a sandy beige, or a light powder blue. To achieve a balanced look, incorporate darker colours like navy and dusky grey on an accent wall. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, you can even paint your ceiling in the green hue to give yourself a relaxing and airy space to wake up to each morning.

For this cosy look, try to stick to more muted flooring, like laminate or cream carpets. Then, just accessorise with luxurious Tranquil Dawn textiles, like throws and cushions on your bed, and a statement accent rug. Wooden bed frames and indoor plants can add to the natural look of the room and the emerald leaves can help to bring out the green tones of the paint itself.

Go bold or go home

The great thing about Tranquil Dawn is its versatility. Because it’s such a bright and airy colour, it can be paired with similar pastel shades, as I’ve suggested above, or you can be a little more adventurous with your style and use it to complement bright and bold tones. If you’re someone who likes to show off their personality with their bedroom décor, then consider matching it to brighter hues like yellow, emerald green, teal or burgundy.

To avoid this bold look from being too overwhelming, stick to simple furniture styles like wooden bed frames in white or brown, with matching wardrobes and bedside tables. You could also opt for metal bed frames for a more contemporary look, but try to stick to minimalistic designs and colours. Then, you can easily add some extra colourful touches with lamps, cushions and throws, as well as blankets and blinds.

Try some two-tone

The bright shade of Tranquil Dawn makes it perfect for a two-tone wall. This can be done whether you’re going for a relaxed or bolder look. For example, stripes and geometric prints can work for a bright and airy bedroom, whereas half-and-half walls can work well for more tranquil settings.

The most important thing about creating a two-tone wall is your colour combinations. For bold bedrooms, co-ordinate Tranquil Dawn with bright, contrasting colours to get the most out of the effect. But, for a more relaxing space, look for muted tones like sandy or chocolate browns, or even a blush pink for a more feminine style.

For small bedrooms, try to use Tranquil Dawn more than your complementary colour, as it can help to give the room a more open and airy feel. If you’ve got low ceilings, painting this popular hue at the very top of your walls can help to lengthen the space.

Then, you can alternate between the colours in your accessories. For example, you could have Tranquil Dawn bedding and a headboard, or go for minimalistic furniture, with accents in your complementary colour to tie the whole room together.

Keep it subtle

If you don’t feel like a complete bedroom transformation, you can add Tranquil Dawn in more subtle ways, like through your bedding, curtains, accent chairs or accessories, such as your vases and lampshades. It’s a simple way to make sure your interior décor is on-trend, but you can easily switch them around if you feel like changing things up at a later date, without the need for a paintbrush. Just make sure you stick to timeless bedroom furniture, like wooden or metal bed frames or fabric divan beds, so you can match them to any future styles you may choose.

The subtle tones of Dulux Colour of the Year 2020 make Tranquil Dawn the perfect, comforting colour to incorporate into your bedroom décor. Just follow these design tips to transform your bedroom into a stylish haven.
