How To Style The 2019 Chunky Jewellery Trend

Chunky jewellery is back on trend in 2019, but what’s the best way to wear it? In this article, Sarah Buck, Head of Retail at jewellery specialist Est1897, shares some great tips to get the most out of your chunky jewellery.

When it comes to nailing your personal style for the year, there’s perhaps nothing more important than your jewellery. These accessories have the power to take your look to the next level and can turn even the simplest of outfits into something stylish. With chunky jewellery coming back to the fore this year, now is the time to incorporate some great pieces into your wardrobe.

Trends come and go, so you don’t have to go overboard. Instead, try and incorporate elements of new trends into your current style, allowing you to easily adapt again in the future. If you think the chunky trend is too bold for you, then start small and simple. It’s always a good idea to try something a little out of your comfort zone — who knows, you might love it.

With this in mind, I thought it would be a good idea to share with you some great tips for incorporating chunky jewellery into your look, even if you’ve never tried it before.

Sometimes less is more

Bold pieces should be just that — bold! They’re supposed to stand out and draw the eye, which is why crowding them is a big no-no. Generally, it’s best practice to wear just one piece of chunky jewellery at a time, even if you think they would look good together. That’s not to say it can’t be done, but I’d avoid wearing statement necklaces and earrings together, as this can seem cluttered.

Let the jewellery be the focal point

Chunky jewellery stands out by its very nature, so let it. Simple clothes will allow your big accessories to pop and draw the eye. Chunky necklaces work particularly well for this and can take what would otherwise have been a pretty standard outfit up to the next level of style. You can accentuate this even further by wearing simple blacks, whites, and greys, and using your statement jewellery for a pop of colour.

Match your necklace to your neckline

To get the most out of your chunky necklace, you want to ensure you have a neckline that can properly show it off. Tops and dresses that are strapless, off-the-shoulder and V-neck work well as they let you show off your chunky necklace in all its glory. Anything that makes your neck busier, such as a collar or halter top, typically won’t work well and should be avoided.

Choose the right earrings

Chunky earrings can really add to your look, and work especially well in the summer months. They will undoubtedly be the first thing that people notice, so it’s worth investing in a few standout pairs. The key is to make sure you choose a pair that frames your face and enhances your features. You can find out more about earrings and face shapes in this guide from Holly Yashi.

Don’t forget the rings

Chunky rings aren’t for everybody, but I’d recommend giving them a try before dismissing them. It’s important to know that they will draw attention to your hands, so you’ll want to make sure your nails are well looked after. The colour of your nail polish could clash with your ring, so think about this beforehand. The bigger and brighter your chunky rings can be, the better, but don’t overdo it by wearing more than one or two standout pieces.

Whatever chunky jewellery you decide to add to your collection this year, follow my tips above and you’ll be able to take your style to the next level.
