5 Tips on Packing for a Summer Holiday

Many of us look forward to our summer holidays. The chance to unwind, explore new places and create lasting memories is too good to pass up! Whether you’re planning a beach getaway, a cultural city tour, or a peaceful retreat in a villa in Cyprus, there are so many gorgeous destinations to spend the summer months.

But before that first blissful sigh of relaxation, there’s the dreaded hurdle: packing. With so many details to consider, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and your excitement overshadowed by the stress of getting your belongings together. However, with a bit of planning and organisation, packing can be a breeze. Here are five tips to help you pack efficiently for your summer holiday

Start packing early

Avoid the last-minute frenzy! The earlier you start, the calmer you’ll feel. Check airline baggage allowances and restrictions well in advance. This way, you can strategise your packing and avoid any unwanted baggage fees.

Begin by making a list of everything you need to bring. This allows you to organise your thoughts and ensures you won’t forget any essential items. Starting early also gives you plenty of time to purchase any additional items you might need, such as sun protection, new swimwear or travel-sized toiletries.

Plan your outfits

Carefully planning your outfits can save you a lot of space and hassle. Check the weather forecast for your destination and plan accordingly. Embrace the power of the capsule wardrobe. Think mix-and-match pieces that can be easily interchanged to create multiple holiday outfits.

Focus on lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton and linen for hot weather. Don’t forget a light jacket or cardigan for cooler evenings or unexpected air conditioning. Plan outfits around your activities – something stylish for a fancy dinner, comfortable walking shoes for sightseeing, and of course, swimwear for those poolside dips.

Use packing cubes

Packing cubes are a game-changer for keeping your suitcase organised. These handy little bags help you compartmentalise your belongings, making it easy to find what you need without rummaging through your entire suitcase. They come in various sizes, perfect for separating clothes, shoes, toiletries, and other essentials. Not only do they keep things tidy, but they also help maximise space.

Less is more

Here’s the golden rule – pack light! Resist the urge to bring “just in case” items. Chances are, you won’t wear them all. Overpacking is one of the most common mistakes when getting ready for your holiday and can lead to heavy, cumbersome luggage.

Laundry services are readily available at most hotels and resorts, so pack enough clothes for the duration of your trip with a buffer for one or two washes.

How to know what to pack

Knowing what to pack depends largely on your destination and planned activities. Check the weather forecast for your destination before packing to help you choose the right clothing weight and layers. Find out if your accommodation provides essentials like towels and poolside loungers and research whether there are any dress codes for any landmarks or sites you plan on visiting.
