Luxury Spaces: 6 Spectacular Home Addition Ideas

Are you looking to add a touch of luxury to your home? In this article, Christopher Dance from interior design experts InHouse Inspired Room Design shares six show-stopping spaces to add to your home.

If you’re looking to spruce up your home sometime soon, you’re not alone. Nearly half of Brits spent lockdown doing some form of home improvement (Property Reporter). On top of this, the country is predicted to spend a whopping £47 billion on home improvements in 2021 alone (DIY Week)!

It’s easy to see why so many of us have chosen to invest in our homes over the past couple of years — being stuck inside for months on end has shown us just how important it is to love the space we live in. However, since so many people have been looking to make big changes to their homes, the chances are that they will want something a little different to help their home stand out from the rest. If you’re looking for inspiration, here are six spectacular house additions to bring a touch of luxury to your home.

A vintage dressing room

Get ready for the day in style by adding a vintage-inspired dressing room to your home. Not only is this a glamorous addition to any house, but it’s a great way to add some extra space for your clothes too. Plus, there are so many different vintage styles, from art deco to mid-century modern, you can really make it your own.

Show your clothes off in style by displaying them in an open wardrobe. You can also opt for a vintage shoe rack to showcase your favourite pairs, not forgetting to include a beautiful vanity that will allow you to finalise your look for the day, as well as plenty of storage space for beauty products and fragrances.

It’s important to make sure you have the right lighting for your dressing room too. It’s a good idea to add daylight bulbs to your vanity, as these give you the best light for applying makeup. Also, to make your wardrobes and shoe racks statement features, make sure to add stylish strip lighting around the inside edges.

A library

If you’re an avid reader who has always dreamed of having the space to store an endless supply of books, this is the perfect home addition for you. A library is a great practical addition that is also incredibly beautiful and luxurious. Opting for grand vintage wooden bookcases with real wood flooring and opulent rugs will make your house feel like a stately home.

However, you don’t need to limit your library to just books, as there are plenty of other practical uses for the room. Incorporate a desk and chair and use it as a home office, or, add a selection of comfortable reading chairs to curl up in – perfect for cosy evenings.

A cocktail bar

If you’ve ever wanted to practise your bartending skills, now’s your chance! Create a space to entertain your guests by adding an at-home cocktail bar. It doesn’t have to take up too much space either, so it would be great for a smaller home, spare room, or even shed.

To create a cosy and intimate atmosphere, opt for a dark colour scheme and dimmed lighting. Choosing solid wood countertops and cupboards will give the bar a traditional feel, and a soft light will create the perfect ambience. Make sure to incorporate plenty of cupboard space for ingredients, and a sink so you don’t need to run back and forth to the kitchen.

An entertainment room

This is the perfect addition to any home, whether you’re looking to impress your guests, have fun with the family, or simply relax after a long day. There are so many options when it comes to entertainment rooms too, so you can choose something which fits your personality perfectly.

If you love going to the pictures, bring Hollywood to your home by creating your own cinema room. For this home addition, comfortable seats are a top priority, as well as a large television or projector and a top-quality sound system. Or, if you’re wanting a fun activities hub, you could create a games room instead. Fill the space with a pool table, dartboard, and maybe even some games consoles if you prefer video gaming.

A boot room

A boot room is one of the more practical home additions, but this doesn’t mean it can’t be beautiful! Essentially a space for extra storage, it often doubles up as a utility room. As well as being a great place to store those items that you can never seem to make room for, it’s the perfect way to add a touch of rustic charm to your property.

Ample storage space is key for any boot room, so make sure to install high-level storage that makes the most of previously unused space. Open shelves are particularly popular for boot rooms as these allow for easy access to your belongings. You may also want to install a sink for cleaning off muddy shoes or pets. A boot room can be the perfect place for your furry friends to sleep too, as they tend to be snug and cosy.

A bathroom spa sanctuary

Get your zen on by transforming your bathroom into a spa sanctuary, or even adding a new one to your home. Not only does an extra bathroom have its practical uses, but having your very own zen hideaway will feel like living in the height of luxury, plus, it’s the perfect place to relax after a busy day.

Use natural materials such as wood or stone in your bathroom spa to make it feel just like the real thing. To keep the room as minimalist as possible, include plenty of storage space to hide the clutter away. And of course, no spa bathroom is complete without a luxurious deep bath or waterfall shower. To make the experience as blissful as possible, install adjustable lighting to set the mood.

Not only do these unique home additions serve a practical purpose, but they bring a touch of luxury to your house too. For more inspiration and advice for home renovations, make sure to check out the other interior articles at British Style Society.
