Luxury Interior Design Trends For 2020

From curved silhouettes, tactile textures and minimalist opulent finishes, to bold shades of neo mint and rich earthen hues, 2020 promises to bring warmth and interest to interiors. We’ve teamed up with Juliette Thomas, Founder and Director of Juliettes Interiors to find out her opinion on the top luxury interior trends that are on the horizon the year ahead.

Elegant curves

One of the overriding themes for interior design in 2020 is curves. Smooth continuous lines, padded scalloped edges and fan shapes make their way into luxury sofas, statement armchairs, elaborate headboards and unique bedside tables. For a nod to this trend opt for soft, smaller, elegant curved finishes, or be flamboyant with eye-catching large furniture pieces for a bold approach to interior style.

Sumptuous texture

Providing the ultimate comfort remains key with luxury furniture. The home offers a place to de-stress and unwind, furniture should look beautiful, but not at the expense of enjoyment. Designed to catch the eye and envelop opulence, soft leather, warm nubuck, smooth velvets and natural linens make the perfect base for furniture. With the trend towards more masculine styling evolving, think supple leather, warm brown, rich burgundy and dark grey. Natural textured accessories will continue to grow in popularity as people seek more organic fabrics as environmental concerns greaten.

Biophilia

For some time now we’ve been seeing the trend for houseplants develop. Originally this meant large picture windows with beautiful garden views, but now the garden itself is moving in. In design terms, this trend also feeds into the bold botanical vibe that we’ve been seeing in wallpapers and textiles. Make a statement with big, vibrant foliage prints that make an undeniably striking statement in a minimalist setting.

A Nordic update

Minimalist, pared-back Nordic design will see an update for 2020. Clean lines and lack of fuss have been upgraded with flawless finishes and opulent materials. Choose glamorous gold, burnished metallics, marble and smooth woods for a modern take on this stylish trend.

Neo Mint, Green Grandeur and Sapphire Blue

Cool, clean and fresh, the colour choice of 2020 is a calming shade of minty green with a delicate blue base. For a quick and easy trend update opt for a piece of luxurious furniture, accessory or lighting piece coated in the colour of the moment. For those less keen on this candy colour, hot on its heels are softer shades of yellow-based greens.

From light chartreuse and pistachio shades to mid-sage and deep forest green inspired by the wider macro wellness trend, these hues epitomise calmness, creating a peaceful space, perfect for relaxing in.

Blue will not disappear in 2020, it will become more prominent in the home with mid to deep shades of this moody colour seen on walls, soft furnishings and statement furniture items. Clash with pink for a fun and imaginative space or pair with oxblood for an indulgently deep and decadent interior.
