Fashions Finest SS20 | Interview With Designer Evelina Anglickaite

In celebration of Fashions Finest 10th anniversary event during London Fashion Week, we chatted to Evelina Anglickaite who is showing her capsule collection which highlights the relationship between the Western beauty of radiance, majesty, grandness, and the Eastern beauty that is austerity, simplicity, and hidden beauty.

Evelina, how did you first get interested in fashion?

As my grandmother was a seamstress, she introduced me to pattern making and design from a very young age, which launched my interest in haute couture.

Where does the love for fashion come from?

The love for fashion became vivid for me when I first saw Christian Dior’s Fall 2010 Couture Collection. The remarkable use of colour and fabrics drew my complete attention to haute couture.

When you first started, did you have any specific ambition?

As my career has just started, it’s quite hard to say. With my designs, I aspire to introduce a new perspective in creating eveningwear; colliding philosophy, art, history and the present-day environmental challenges.

What makes a good design?

Craftmanship. The attention to small detailing, a conscious choice in fabrics and materials used in a design.

How does your typical day look like? How do you balance your career with your personal life?

Just like everyone else’s, except it is mainly based on fashion design. My career has become my personal life, there is no boundary in between. Inspiration comes unexpectedly, just as new opportunities and offers. Nonetheless, I still make the time for self-reflection and personal growth.

Who from the fashion industry do you find inspiring?

Without a doubt Christian Dior and Alexander McQueen. Both of these designers are revolutionary for the fashion industry and have created unbelievable collections.

Name five things you cannot live without:

My family, nature, music, painting and coffee.

Where do you see the brand and yourself going in the future?

My main current goal is to grow as a designer, to focus on evening wear and modern-day environmental challenges with an emphasis on detailing, craftsmanship and choice of fabrics. In the future, I intend to start my own brand, focusing around sustainable evening wear, with influences from various cultures, art and philosophy.
