Proposals come in all different forms; from planned ones to total surprises. Whether you are looking at engagement rings so you can tell your partner what you like, or you are looking for the perfect ring to propose with, then there are some things you need to consider.
Here are some tips on choosing the perfect engagement ring.
The four C’s
When it comes to engagement rings, the four C’s are incredibly important. They stand for:
- Colour
- Clarity
- Cut
- Carat weight
Take your time to research the differences between the different factors to end up with the perfect engagement ring. For example, the colour of your diamond can be affected by the cut. A round brilliant diamond can hide the colour well, meaning you can pick a slightly coloured diamond which may be a bit more budget-friendly.
Match your wedding band
Engagements happen with a wedding planned for the future. Whether that is immediately or ten years down the line, you will want to make sure that your engagement ring matches your wedding band.
Many betrothal rings come with a matching band, so you can stack the rings once you are married and wear both at once. If that is not the case, you may want to opt for a band that is neutral such as silver or platinum which will then go with anything in the future.
Rings that have curved stone settings will require a bit more thought. Some wedding rings are designed with this in mind and can slot around your engagement ring seamlessly.
Don’t skip measurements
People who have planned a surprise engagement will tell you that finding the right ring size can be tricky. Proposing with a ring that doesn’t fit might take the sparkle out of a magical moment.
If you wear rings regularly then you will probably already know your ring size. Make sure you drop it into conversation or straight up tell your partner so that they can get it right!
An existing, well-loved ring is also a great way to gauge the size without your better half knowing. Take it to a jeweller and they will be able to tell you what size you are looking for to get the perfect fit. Make sure it fits on their ring finger, though!
Stay true to yourself
Ultimately, the only opinion that matters when it comes to an engagement ring is yours and your partner’s. If big, flashy diamonds aren’t for you then don’t waste your money trying to like them. Diamonds are not the only stone you can use. Look into alternative options such as rubies, opals, or sapphires.
Stick to a signature style that will make you or your other half feel confident every time the ring sparkles in the sunlight as that is the way a proposal should make you feel.
