The article below will give you some ideas and hacks on how you can stay safe in your own home.

Lock your doors

This one might seem obvious, but when you are home or out, lock your doors. You might be tempted to leave the door unlocked if you are home, but you never know who will have the audacity to just walk into your home. There have been many cases of people trying door handles and you don’t want anything to happen if someone walks into your home. Use the locks provided, or you could also invest in better locks and chains for your door.

Use CCTV

There are many video doorbells now, which is great, it acts as a wonderful deterrent for burglaries and crime in the local area. However, if you want more, then how about investing in a top quality CCTV system. You can monitor this yourself or you could use a company that will watch it for you. If anything untoward is detected then they will send the emergency services over to your place.

Install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

When you are living in your own property, you are in charge of ensuring there are smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms. This will save your life, especially if you are asleep and don’t smell the smoke filling your home. Carbon monoxide is colourless and odourless, you will never know it’s there unless that alarm starts going off. If that alarm goes off, don’t ignore it, don’t turn it off, get out of your house and call the appropriate people.

Speak to your landlord

Finally, if you are renting and notice any issues with the property then don’t be afraid to contact your landlord or letting agent. They will be more than happy to help sort anything that is going on. It might be that you have no water, or your boiler has broken. You also need to be careful that your home environment isn’t a danger to you or your health. For example, mold could become an issue which is terrible for your lungs.
