Summer Adventures Await at The Inverness Castle Experience

Families looking for an inspiring day out this summer can enjoy a packed programme of activities at The Inverness Castle Experience, with interactive family trails, seasonal food and drink, and a special visit from Scottish Citylink as part of its nationwide Cities Tour.

Open throughout the summer holidays, The Inverness Castle Experience invites visitors to explore the Spirit of the Highlands through immersive storytelling, interactive exhibits and spectacular views across Inverness. Designed for visitors aged five and over, the attraction takes guests on a journey through Highland history, music, culture and contemporary creativity across the Castle’s North and South Towers. Younger visitors can also follow a dedicated children’s audio trail led by Cuillin, the loyal dog of Flora MacDonald and the Experience’s much-loved mascot.

From 1st July until 31st August 2026, families can also take part in Cuillin’s free Garden Trail. The outdoor activity encourages children to explore the Castle Gardens using a free trail sheet, available from the Saltire Bistro. Those with tickets to The Inverness Castle Experience can continue the adventure indoors with a bonus trail question.

Everyone who completes the trail receives a certificate, while those who answer the bonus question will also earn a Cuillin sticker.

Visitors can round off their day at the Saltire Bistro, where a refreshed seasonal menu includes options for children. Outdoor seating on the River View Terrace offers panoramic views across the city, while guests looking for a more indulgent experience can book afternoon tea.

To make the most of their visit, guests are encouraged to book online in advance, with savings of up to £10 available on admission.

The summer programme also includes a visit from Scottish Citylink’s Cities Tour on 30 June between 2pm and 5pm. The Citylink pop-up bus will stop at The Inverness Castle Experience, giving visitors the opportunity to meet the team, explore the bus and take part in competitions, with 10 family passes to the attraction up for grabs.

The event also showcases sustainable travel options to the Highlands, with Scottish Citylink providing services from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perth, Skye, Aberdeen and Fort William, with single fares available from £2.

With interactive experiences, outdoor adventures and special events throughout the school holidays, The Inverness Castle Experience offers plenty to keep families entertained while discovering the stories, landscapes and culture that have shaped the Highlands.
