Should You Install Your Own CCTV?

Let’s admit it: Most of us are guilty of trying to cut corners. We are drawn to a cheaper or ‘easier’ alternative and try to tackle tasks ourselves. Unfortunately, this often comes back to bite a lot of people when things go wrong. When dealing with specialist industries, such as security, it is highly recommended that you don’t try and sort out your home’s security measures yourself. It can often be very tempting to do so.

After all, you can easily buy CCTV and other security equipment online nowadays. The products will get sent to your door and then you can embark on the installation process yourself. It sounds really simple and easy, but it is highly inadvisable. This is a job that should be left to professional CCTV installers.

Why? Read on and you will find out…

If you install the equipment it becomes your responsibility

If you decide to purchase the equipment off of the internet and then install it yourself you are not covered if anything goes wrong. You need to remember the fact that you are dealing with expensive high tech equipment. If you have no experience with security then you will have no idea regarding how to set up your CCTV equipment. After all, it’s not as simple as setting up a television; you can embark on a trial and error process whilst doing that. With CCTV you need to get everything right in order to ensure the technology works properly and that you haven’t damaged the hardware.

If you were to damage the equipment through trying to install it yourself then it would quite simply be tough. You would lose all of your money. However, if you employ CCTV installers it is their job to ensure you get the equipment you ordered, that it is set up properly in your home, and it works effectively. You don’t have to worry about taking care of anything yourself and you can be 100% safe in the knowledge that nothing will go wrong.

Without professional CCTV installers, you could be under a false illusion

If you don’t use the help of professionals in the security industry you may be under the impression that your home CCTV system is working properly when it is not. This will create a false sense of security. You will be under the fake illusion that your home and all of your assets are safe.

However, all the while your CCTV may not be on the right setting or may not have been completely installed. At the end of the day, if you have simply tried to implement the set up yourself then how do you know you have done it properly? Unless you have been trained in the field of security you will have no incline as to whether your CCTV system is effective.

Only trained security experts know how to achieve optimum security

It is not enough to merely buy CCTV equipment that looks good online. You need professional insight in order to know how to strategically place the equipment around your premises. They will effectively survey and analyse the area in order to determine how you can achieve the highest level of security.

This is something you would not be able to do yourself unless you had been trained in this field. They will also explain all the features of your CCTV system. It is very likely that you would miss some key attributes if you did not have qualified CCTV installers there to explain all aspects.

The only way to be completely sure of full security levels is to employ professional CCTV installers to handle the set up of your system. It can be very tempting to try and install the equipment yourself. However, going down this route represents a massive risk – a risk that is definitely not worth taking.
