Home Remedies That Help If You Have Dry Skin

If you suffer from dry skin, then you will know how debilitating this can be. You may feel as though your skin is constantly flaking or that you experience cracks. The problem is that if you try and use makeup to cover up your dry skin then you may find that you end up not being able to recover, as the makeup is always blocking moisture from being absorbed by your skin. Hot showers can also trigger dry skin, so at times, it may feel as though everything is working against you. If you want to do something about this then take a look below.

Use Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is known for having somewhat emollient properties. Studies have found that emollients are ideal if you want to fill the spaces between your skin cells and it can also help you to create a very smooth surface. This is why saturated fatty acids that are often found in coconut oils, can easily smooth and hydrate your skin. You can use coconut oil on a daily basis, and you can also use it on the more sensitive parts of your body. This happens to include around your mouth and around your eyes. You don’t need to mix it with anything either, so it’s a very handy thing to have around.

Petroleum Jelly

Studies have shown that petroleum jelly can help you to heal your skin if you’re an adult. Petroleum jelly is otherwise known as mineral oil and it essentially covers your skin in a nice protective layer. It also traps moisture under the skin, and this will help you to heal your skin if it is dry, irritated or patchy. This skin treatment is ideal if you have recurrent dryness.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a very common remedy if you have irritated skin. Studies have shown time and time again that older generations have been using oatmeal for centuries to soothe dry skin. Colloidal oatmeal is known for containing anti-inflammatory properties and this can help you to soothe irritation. It can also be very effective if you are trying to relieve itching. After you have taken a bath in oatmeal, try and make sure that you moisturise your skin if you want to create a nice barrier. You can easily make your own oatmeal bath at home if you want. Use a food processor to chop up your oatmeal into a fine powder. When you have done this, you then need to stir it in some warm water.

Antioxidants

When your skin is very dry, it usually means that you are exposing your skin to elements that may be damaging your skin cells and that your body cannot repair them in time. At the end of the day, there are some foods that can help your skin to appear much healthier. Foods that are rich in antioxidants can ensure that your cells stay healthy, so try and take note of foods such as blueberries if you want to give your skin the support it needs.
