Top Tips For Getting Prepped for a Trip

When your tickets are booked, your bags are packed, and you’re ready to go on a break, you feel ready for anything. The problem is, there’s always something more to organize and something more to consider. There are always a few final tasks, especially around the house. There are always things that you need to do, such as logging onto the Parking Up website so that you can book your airport parking because she forgot.

There is always the task of double-checking your visa requirements and your passport timings so that you can make sure that you’re not going to turn up at the airport only to be turned away. You want your holiday to go off without a hitch, and for that to be the case, you need to follow these tips below to get prepared for your next trip.

  • Schedule pet care. If you’ve got pets, you need to make sure that you have care for them. The last thing you want to do is to get right up to the moment of your trip before you realise that you haven’t organised anybody to come and feed the cat or walk the dog. Luckily for you, there are places that can do this for you and you have to just make sure that you have booked it in advance, hiring either a pet sitter to come to the home, leaving your pet with a family member or being able to leave them in. A pet hotel like a cattery or a kennel is really going to help you to relax on your next trip.
  • Go grocery shopping in advance. This is probably not a good idea for perishable foods, but going up to the stores to pick a few essentials that are ready for you when you get back is a great idea. An even better idea is to go grocery shopping online and schedule the delivery for the day you are home. Doing this allows you to have fresh food and fresh milk for when you arrive back at home so you can have coffee the next day with no worries.
  • Get through your laundry baskets before you go anywhere. It goes without saying that having some time to get laundry done before you go on vacation is super helpful. Coming home to a clean house is probably one of the best feelings in the world as opposed to actually going on the vacation itself. If you dedicate some time to making sure that you have nothing to do in terms of chores when you get back, then all you’ll have to do is unpack your case and sit down to relax after a trip.
  • Meal prep. It’s a good idea to prepare some meals for when you get home in advance. You can partly bake some pizzas and get them wrapped into the freezer ready for you to just throw one into the oven when you get home. This way you don’t have to come back from travelling all day long to actually have to cook. If you can’t be bothered with meal prepping then make sure that you factor in a take out to your budget so that when you get home from your trip you can order some food.
  • Get your grooming done. If you’re planning on going to a beach vacation, then you may want to head out to your waxer to get your legs done, or go to get your nails done, or go to get your hair done before your vacation. Getting some grooming done is a great way to feel like you can really relax while you’re away. Of course, it’s not a prerequisite for a good trip, but if it’s going to make you feel good about yourself, then there’s really nothing wrong with that.
  • Unplug everything. Before you walk out the door, do a sweep of the house and turn off everything at the mains unless it’s the fridge or the freezer. Unplugging anything or switching off the plugs where things are plugged in is a good way to give your house a breather, but while you’re away. Unplugging in the appliances and electronics that don’t need to be left on. It will help you to reduce your energy bill as well. You can also adjust the thermostat to a reasonable temperature and set up your lights so that they can come on while you’re away.
