I’ve always loved fashion, and in light of the attention around this industry, I’d certainly say I’ve been guilty of buying way more things than I need in the past. However, this year, I’ve started to make some changes. I’m not perfect by any means, but making a start can help pave the way for more conscious buying decisions.
If you follow my Insta page @tashaahenson, you’ll see that I’m a big fan of vintage and thrift finds. But more recently I’ve been scouting eco, and socially conscious brands for those items that will see me through a good few seasons, if not years.
Building a capsule wardrobe with sustainable brands is a great way to get more wear out of your clothing. You also have peace of mind that the item has been manufactured in a mindful way.
Will’s Vegan Store
In my search for fashionable and sustainable brands, I was introduced to Will’s Vegan Store. Owner Will Green founded the brand with a mission to bring consciously-made shoes and clothing to consumers without compromising on style. First and foremost, the brand is vegan-friendly and is registered with The Vegan Society, plus they’re PETA-approved. Of course, you don’t have to be vegan to buy these gorgeous items either.
Searching their website, you’ll find everything from classic boots, fabulous knitwear and statement accessories. I recently styled the Dock Boots in a beautiful chestnut colour. These boots are ideal for the autumn/winter season, and pair perfectly with my favourites colours. The beauty of this style is that leather alternatives take ages to wear in (and I’ve had the blisters to show for it!). But these boots, I’ve been able to wear straight from the box without having any of those uncomfortable wearing-in issues.
Take a look at how I styled them:
So everyone knows, when you get the shoes, you’ve got to have the matching bag too, which leads me perfectly onto the Will’s Vegan Saddle Bag. I’m not a big fan of huge handbags and achy shoulders, so this cute accessory is the ideal alternative for carrying around the essentials. The longer strap means I can wear it cross-body too. The quality is amazing, plus, the style is timeless and pairs with tons of outfits, both smart and casual. Check it out below:
The range of sustainable fashion brands coming into the market is giving us the option to make more ethical and conscious buying decisions. This isn’t just great for the planet; it’s also more cost-effective in the long-run. Buying less and wearing more is a motto I’m striving to think about each time I’m tempted to buy something new. So far, it’s helped me curb my spending habits and made me more aware of the brands I’m buying from.
So why not give it a go!
