Spotlight On Casual Style for AW18

Casual style is one of my favourite looks and as an avid fan of feeling comfortable in what I wear, there are heaps of options that not only look amazing but feel great too. Autumn is nearly upon us and many will have seen the new colours and trends creeping into stores already. If you’re not ready to turn your back on summer, look away now but if you’re looking forward to putting on those woolly knits and snapping your buys for Instagram in the newly fallen leaves, check out some of the trends heading your way this season.

Slogans

We all love to express ourselves in one way or another, and what better way to do that through fashion! Wordplay has always been a big hit when making a statement and this trend has seen a rise in popularity with celebrities and bloggers celebrating with fashionable t-shirts and sweatshirts. The past few years have seen wording and slogans incorporated into everything from clutch bags to knitwear and this 90s inspired trend doesn’t look to be going anywhere fast.

In previous years, statement slogans have hit the catwalks of designers such as Christopher Kane and Alexander Wang with a variety of messages from bold and brash to softer declarations of independence, designers have even braved political or environmental themes to raise awareness. Depending on your demure, you can opt for subtle cheeky phrases or confident ‘say it loud’ statements enough to make anyone stand up and take notice.

Slogan tops look fabulous with casual denim or vamped up with leather look trousers and killer heels. There are plenty of fabulous examples on the high street and online and if you look at little harder there are oodles of independent t-shirt brands breaking into the market wanting you to wear their fabulous threads.

Take a look at these cool slogan fashion items from Dorothy Perkins & F&F, perfect for incorporating into current trends.

Denim staples

Denim for me is one of those staples I’ll always have in my wardrobe.  I have my favourite pairs of jeans that fit perfectly and that seems to go with everything but what happens when they come towards the end of their life, hanging on by the last bits of thread. Well if like me you wear those staple pieces until they fall apart, you’ll need to find something to replace them and sometimes that can be a hard task.

I’m pretty particular about jeans in general and I’m all for a great boyfriend style jean as it suits my (for the most part) laid-back style. Recently I purchased a denim skirt from Boohoo, as I was growing slightly tired of covering my pins so I thought I’d take a look at the other new denim trends that are hitting the high streets.

Casual trousers

Over the last few months, I’ve discovered some fabulous casual trousers that work well with both smarter blouses and basic tees. Some of my favourites include the designs with stripes down the leg, and there is a host of casual trousers from Esprit that have caught my attention. There are a range workwear designs with a tuxedo style look plus some chilled casual looks in a number of colours, perfect for a day to eveningwear transition.
