Perfect Romantic Spots in the UK to Visit
If your 2025 UK holiday is going to see you travelling with a loved one, visiting picturesque locations steeped in history, beauty and timeless romantic tales is the perfect choice.
For ultimate inspiration, Fulton Umbrellas have picked five romantic spots to visit across the UK which have real-life historical stories of love ready to discover.
Balmoral Estate, Aberdeenshire

Let’s start with some recent history – King Charles III and Queen Camilla married on April 9th 2005, so they will be celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary this year.
If previous years are anything to go by, the royal couple will be spending at least some of the occasion at Birkhall. After all, they have spent every wedding anniversary at their beloved private residence, which neighbours the Balmoral Estate.
While you can’t access Birkhall, how about planning a visit to Balmoral Estate on this landmark year to take in so much rich royal history? Abundant wildlife, 45 acres of lush garden scenery and stunning landscapes are sure to take your breath away too.
The lovely village of Braemar is just down the road as well, which the official visitor site describes as having “a thriving arts and music scene with concerts, ceilidhs and other events regularly performed in multiple venues”.
Just make sure to pack your designer umbrellas if travelling to this part of Aberdeenshire in April – Scotland is likely to experience some wet April showers throughout the month.
Osborne House, Isle of Wight

Keeping with the royal couple theme for the moment, we next find ourselves at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight – once the place where Queen Victoria and Prince Albert enjoyed private family time.
The couple had a very close relationship, so much so that it has inspired many books, TV series and films over the years.
You can get a glimpse into how Queen Victoria and Prince Albert made the most of their time away from the public spotlight by taking in Osborne House’s extravagant state apartments and private family rooms.
The location is surrounded by vast grounds as well – we encourage you to walk along the site’s interactive tree trail to discover the unusual Swiss Cottage – and a golden beach that’ll be perfect to relax on during summer staycations.
Don’t just take our word for why you need to see Osborne House. Queen Victoria once said after a visit that “it is impossible to imagine a prettier spot”.
Erddig Hall and Garden, Wrexham

A time soon after Queen Victoria’s reign is next on the itinerary of the UK’s perfect romantic spots. A period just before the First World War to be precise, at Erddig Hall and Garden.
Within this Welsh 18th-century country house, a tale titled ‘life below stairs’ took place as workers Lucy Hitchman and Ernest Jones fell in love as they carried out their jobs.
Visit Erddig Hall and Garden today and you’ll be able to explore the carefully preserved rooms and take in a huge collection of servants’ portraits to get an idea of how the loved-up couple lived during their developing relationship.
There’s also a Grade I listed walled garden with a Dutch influence just waiting to be discovered, not to mention a 1,200-acre estate that is filled with stunning ponds, lakes, rivers, meadows and vast woodland. The ‘life below stairs’ tale goes that Hitchman and Jones strolled around this park together when they had afternoons off from work.
Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate, Norfolk

Our trip through history goes further back in time here, when a heartwarming moment of love was captured during the 18th century at Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate.
At around 1735, William Windham II’s tutor Benjamin Stillingfleet wrote a poem showcasing his affection for local beauty Anne Barnes.
This wasn’t just someone writing about their love for another person on a piece of parchment though. Stillingfleet etched his love poem into a pane of glass in the butler’s pantry at Felbrigg Hall, which can still be seen if you look closely at the window.
Once you’ve discovered this wonderful poem, there’s so much more to see around one of East Anglia’s most elegant country houses.
Eclectic displays and luxury exports are on showcase around the hall, while a decorative walled garden, lake, waymarked trails and 520 acres of woods await should you venture outdoors around this remarkable National Trust site.
Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, Stratford-upon-Avon

Let us finish our tour around the UK’s ideal romantic spots to visit with a spotlight on William Shakespeare. The beloved English playwright wrote some of the greatest ever romance stories, but we want to focus on a place where his real-life love story grew strong.
It was at Anne Hathaway’s family cottage in Stratford-upon-Avon that Shakespeare visited numerous times as the couple’s relationship was still in its early stages.
Despite being over 500 years old, Anne Hathaway’s Cottage is still intact and open for tourists to explore. In fact, you’ll have the opportunity to see original furniture like the Hathaway bed, before enjoying a stroll around acres of magnificent gardens and orchards.
Make sure to walk along the Cottage’s sculpture trail to learn about the works inspired by Shakespeare too. Plus, is there any better way to complete your trip than by taking in a play at the nearby Royal Shakespeare Theatre?
From tracing the love of royal couples to heading to where Shakespeare fell in love, there are plenty of breathtaking romantic spots just waiting to be seen across the UK this year.
