I’m a Handbag Designer – And These Are The Styles That Are Going To Be Everywhere This Winter

New seasons bring new trends and with winter fast approaching, there’s no harm in getting ahead and refreshing your wardrobe. But you don’t always need a completely new wardrobe to take on the new season trends, as updating your wardrobe with a new handbag is a great way to update your looks. After all, a good bag can make even the simplest outfit feel a little more special.

With the autumn/winter season just getting started, Nia Davis, designer at the handbag and accessory brand Fiorelli shares six trends she expects to dominate this season.

Oversized shoulder bags

The revival of the big bag isn’t going anywhere, however, this season it’s the shoulder bag which is being supersized. We’re going to see an end to cramming everything into a tiny bag and instead, see people opting for something more spacious to swing over their shoulders.

This trend especially makes sense as the seasonal weather means needing to carry more, with an umbrella and gloves essentials, making an extra-roomy shoulder bag a sensible choice.

Leopard print has been popular for a while now and it looks like the trend isn’t going away any time soon as this season, its handbags that are getting the leopard print treatment.

A timeless pattern, a leopard print bag is the perfect accessory to pair with classic pieces, whether dressing up or down. We can also expect to see faded or darker shade versions of this print.

Brown hues

Set to be this season’s IT colour, brown is set to be the colour of the season and we can expect to see more people carrying handbags in coffee shades over the coming months. Perfect for the autumn months, a brown bag looks classy and can easily tie an outfit together.

Bags with compartments

Practicality is influencing this next trend, as searches for ‘bag with compartments’ on Google have grown year on year.

Not only do people want a bag that looks good, but people are now valuing practicality more and more and the increase of bags with compartments is a direct correlation of this.

Having a bag with multiple compartments and pockets offers security for valuables, which is additionally important in the winter months when it gets darker earlier. They also keep your items organised, rather than being jumbled together, making it much easier to find what you need inside.”

With boho set to be a big trend this autumn/winter, it’s no surprise the slouchier silhouettes are having their moment, with them set to be one of the season’s biggest trends.

Exuberating a laid-back feel, they effortlessly blend practicality and style, and we can expect to see the slouchy style across all bags from tote bags, crossbody’s and even clutches.

Top handle bags

Structured top-handle shapes are favoured for their timeless appeal and emulate the ‘old money’ trend. Compact and preppy, they are the perfect accessory to effortlessly add a touch of elegance to an outfit.

With the Christmas party season approaching, we can expect to see this bag style carried a lot more as a go-to evening bag style.
