How to Achieve Perfect Lashes

How often have you heard the phrase, “It’s all in the eyes”? Well‑groomed eyebrows and lashes, and bright eyes with well‑executed eye makeup can really seal your look, make you look good and feel great. Getting your eyeliner just right the first time? An amazing feeling, right?

But what about your lashes? How often do you hit the nail on the head when it comes to your eyelashes? It’s not always as easy as mastering the liner. But there are tips and tricks you can use, whether you’re working with your natural lashes or you’re wearing false lashes.

Healthy lashes

You need to start with a good foundation for healthy lashes, even if you wear false ones. Just like the hair on your head, your eyelashes need proper nurturing so they don’t become prone to breakage or thinning.

This might mean you use a serum that has peptides, biotin or panthenol in it to encourage healthy lash growth and prevent breakage. It could be that you stop harsh practices when styling your lashes, and you might even benefit from finding supplements you can take to help boost your eyelash health (as well as your hair, too).

Less is more

The key to making your lashes stand out for the right reason isn’t to keep on piling product onto them; less is most definitely more here.

The first step is to use a lash curler to get the right shape before you do anything else.

Next is mascara. But remember, too many coats of mascara, for example, can end up looking clumpy and unnatural. Instead, try applying a few coats of mascara from the base and work your way out. Wiggle the applicator slightly as you apply the mascara, as this will help separate the lashes and avoid them sticking together. Allow each coat to dry between applications and go slowly. You only need a few well‑applied coats.

Use the right lash extensions

If you’re wearing lash extensions, you need to make sure you’re choosing the right ones as well as applying them correctly.

It might be worth experimenting with different types of lashes. Some prefer individual lashes or opt for full lashes, or you might want to choose from a wide range of half lashes. Make sure you’re using high‑quality glue and spend time perfecting your application skills, or have a professional apply them for best results. Once you find the most natural type of lashes for your eyes, you’ll get the perfect lashes for everyday wear or special occasions.

Clean them correctly

One part of the process that can often be overlooked in terms of importance for achieving perfect lashes is cleaning and makeup removal. You should always be cleaning your eyes and eyelashes after every application or when you remove false lashes. Healthy, clean eyes and lashes will give you a better base to work from, as you’re not working on top of any leftover residue or oils, and it will help reduce irritation when you do apply product. Use a soft cloth or cotton wool and apply a gentle cleanser to remove all traces of makeup, sleep debris, dirt and sweat build‑up.
