Celebrity Street Style Alert: What to Wear in 2023

Street style is not new to the fashion arena, but in recent years, it has been making a striking appearance on the red carpet and beyond.

Celebrities, who are changemakers when it comes to fashion, are spotting the most astute street style trends from fashion shows and taking them to the street and the red carpet. A blend of celebrity haze and fashion innovation, these styles are now becoming what everyone is talking about and wearing all the time.

Here are the must-have street style trends fashioned by the A-listers you need to add to your wardrobe this year.

Cargo nostalgia

Oh, how much we love cargo! The trend that made the noughties what they were by girl groups like All Saints, TLC and Destiny’s Child is coming back to fashion.

Beyonce herself is taking the trend by heart and channelling her nostalgia in her 2023 Ivy Park collection, Park Trail, featuring wide-leg cargo pants as part of a three-piece set of a bra top and a semi-sheer, floor-length jacket to match. The colour palette is striking: vibrant purple and electric orange.

Other celebrities have also taken their spin on the revived cargo pants trend. Spider-man star Tom Holland has been claimed as one of the most fashionable celebrities of today, and he has recently embraced the skater-boy look. On the set of The Crowded Room in Manhattan, Holland wore loose-legged Carhartt cargo trousers paired with Pangaia’s 365 hoodie in a pale lilac hue and a baby blue beanie.

We also saw Taylor Swift fashioning a more athleisure look on stage just a few weeks ago in her grey cargo pants – the centrepiece of her outfit complemented by a black crop top.

A more elevated version of the street style staple was presented by Sienna Miller, stunned in her high-end edgy look that gave off complete girl band energy. She wore wide-legged cargo pants in faded pastel purple matched with bubblegum cashmere knit in a perfect tonality, pointed white boots and a white cross-body handbag. Of course, her sunglasses with wide frames and dainty gold jewellery tied the whole look together.

2023 is the season of leather. Take a look at Gigi Hadid wearing a soft leather set of skinny pants and a ‘black riding hood’ style jacket with a belt to The Tonight Show discussing Next in Fashion Season 2. The supermodel surely knows what’s lined up in fashion, and she shows it with her leather outfit!

Another fan of the leather pants is Beyonce, who wore a flared fit to create a Matrix-inspired look featuring a sheer turtle-neck top with a font, black blazer, oversized cat eye sunglasses and chain-style gold hoops.

On another note, leather knee-high boots are making a bold fashion statement and can perfectly complement your leather-inspired outfit. Emily Ratajkowski entered 2023 with a ferocious set of black knee-high boots, a black button-down shirt tied at the front and a knee-length leopard print skirt.

Street style-wise, Hailey Bieber has been experimenting with some retro oversized leather jackets lately that are giving total ‘90s vibes. She wore a motorbike-style cropped jacket with a funky print at the back and around the sleeves.

Every year, new tailoring innovations are introduced into the world of suits. With the blending of formal wear with street style, we’re seeing a trend from the past come back to the present – ‘80s power suits.

Yes, in an empowering pursuit to revive the statement shoulders, designers are investing in sharp silhouettes.

Alexandra Daddario showed up at New York Fashion Week in a striped, black suit featuring an oversized blazer with padded shoulders that subtly exposed her belly underneath as she was wearing a black crop top, and finished her look with embellished women’s sandals.

Kendall Jenner also offered a more laid-back take on the black power blazer by pairing it with biker shorts and white trainers.

Tom Holland also didn’t shy away from shining in his brown velvet tuxedo at the GQ Men of the Year event in 2021, paired with tinted glasses and black men’s boots.

But we cannot forget to mention Harry Styles’ iconic peplum suit he wore to the Brit Awards red carpet this year. Although the outfit is incredibly sleek and a fashion supernova, there is a relaxed feel to it that the singer brings about with his chilled persona. He stunned in a black velvet peplum blazer with padded shoulders and a statement black rose paired with wide-legged pants in black and men’s smart shoes.

The latest street style trend emerging on the fashion scene is one from the iconic ‘90s and is often associated with the Slavic culture – a white tank top.

Singer Harry Styles has been fashioning the ‘90s staple on the stage, often paired with flared pants in bright hues and groovy power suits – a colourful twist to the cold and utilitarian white tank top.

White tank tops were a spotlight at the Spring 2023 fashion shows too, with fashion-goers wearing elevated designs by Prada and Hanes.

Street style is not only a favourite amongst celebrities but can also find its place in our wardrobes. It’s effortless, cool, and can look incredibly fashion-forward, so grab your street-style staples and shine away!
