Editor’s Picks | Urban Essentials

As a supporter of British brands and fab independent labels, I’m always on the lookout for fashion forward clothing that gives us something a little different.  If you follow my personal instagram @lazysundaes_ you’ll see I absolutely adore casual clothing especially anything monochrome or denim.  So in my search I have recently reviewed some awesome independent brands that fulfil everything I love about fashion.

Take a look at my urban essentials, perfect for AW16

First up is Hype Clothing.  This new range features a collaboration with a childhood favourite of mine teamed with the brand’s signature styling.

Hype + Barbie fuses Hype’s signature edge with Barbie’s iconic classic pink aesthetic, the adult’s apparel collection comprises an edit of effortlessly cool leisurewear.  With a sports-luxe aesthetic, the fresh contemporary designs boast the iconic Barbie signature style and are designed in a chic palette of grey, white and black and flashes of Barbie pink.

The edit includes sweatshirts, crop tops, vests and a bold new workout-style look with a pink crop and leggings set. Cool accessories help the Hype girl standout with Hype’s classic backpack reimagined with a fresh Barbie makeover and Hype + Barbie baseball caps in black and pink.  I’ve styled my Hype sweatshirt with some fab washed denim jeans to create a cool transitional look for a late summer/autumn wardrobe.

Another fab find is ethical clothing brand Crepe Records Clothing

This innovative independent clothing label makes clothing inspired by music.  Every loveable design is originally hand-drawn by Manisha Davidson, founder of Crepe Records Clothing in thier studio in London with each character having a story behind the design. Their clothing is traditionally printed by hand in London using silk-screen techniques to maintain the quality, feel and detail of item offering a unique and inspiring design.

Manisha told us “Design and ethics go hand in hand for us, each piece of clothing is a form of art.  We carefully consider the look, cut, style, fit and colour to best suit the female/male form.  We only select the highest quality, sustainable soft and durable fabrics such as cotton and bamboo which is organic certified, where applicable.  We support Fair-trade and Living Wage, “The Fair Wear Foundation” and “The Clean Cotton Campaign”.  We strive to display a transparent supply chain and all our clothing is clearly labelled with where the cotton originates from, does not use slave, forced or child labour, and is made in safe working conditions in support of “Fashion Revolution”.  The beauty of this brand also means each item is delivered individually gift wrapped in a bespoke recyclable box that is designed to fit through your letterbox, so no more collecting from the post office”.  I love this funky Disco Snail Tee, perfectly simple with a hint of disco glitz.

Fashion and music go hand in hand each displaying a creative and individual passion.  So don’t forget to also check out their new music mixes and recommendations at https://www.creperecords.com/blogs/music-fashion-blog
